How to De-Gloss Paneling

Paneling -- often wood-- is an interior styling that seriously dates a home's decor. You have pondered inexpensive fixes to the problem. Painting over it seems the easiest solution but then there's the gloss issue. By de-glossing your paneling you will strip away years of dust buildup and waxy cleaners along with the gloss coating. De-glossing requires little effort and is a perfect do-it-yourself project if you want to save money with a simple renovation.

Apply paint primer to the panel before it dries. The surface area of the panel is most susceptible to accepting the primer while the solution is still slightly wet to the touch. The de-glossing solution provides a chemical reaction to the panel's surface allowing a short window of time to apply primer to the panel surface.
