How to Glue Cork to Concrete

Applying cork to concrete flooring is a technique used to control sound in apartments and condominiums. The cork padding absorbs much of the sound created when walking on hardwood and tile floors. Due to the variety of adhesives in the marketplace, it's important to understand how they work in concert with the cork and flooring material you plan to use. You can learn to apply glue to cork correctly, reducing the risk of it pulling away from the concrete and having to redo the project later down the road.

Broom
Water
10-gallon bucket
Stir sticks
Mop
Cleaning solution
Measuring tape
Craft knife
1/4-inch cork sheets
Roller brush
Paint tray
Adhesive
150 lb. flooring roller

Instructions

  Sweep the concrete surface area thoroughly, removing any dust or debris.

  Wet the floor. Mix the concrete cleaning solution with water. Mop the floor, removing residual grease, oil or dirt.

  Allow the floor two to three hours of dry time.

  Measure the dimensions of the area where you will lay the cork. Cut the cork to your measurements.

  Pour one-third of the adhesive into the paint tray. Turn the cork over with its underside facing up. Dip the roller brush into the adhesive.

  Apply a thin coat of adhesive to the underside of the cork. The adhesive should appear shiny on the cork's surface.

  Position the cork into place carefully.

  Assemble the cork in place throughout the coverage area.

  Apply the flooring roller to the cork, pressing it firmly in place. Roll the floor roller across the floor from side to side. Start at one wall with the roller and work your way to the opposite wall.

  Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to dry before applying other flooring material.
