How to Lay Peel-and-Stick Blocks

Peel-and-stick blocks, or tiles, are not usually installed by professionals. The peel-and-stick feature is designed to make installing tile less complicated, and allows homeowners to tackle the task themselves. Self-adhesive tiles come in a variety of styles---from carpet to an imitation stone---and can go in any room in the home. You can install them over most surfaces, including laminate, vinyl, stone tile, wood and concrete subfloors.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep dust and debris off the floor with a broom. Mop the floor with warm water and detergent to make sure it is clean. Then, allow the floor to dry thoroughly.

    • 2

Put floor filling compound into any gaps or cracks on the floor. Smooth it over the gap with a putty knife. Wipe up any excess with a sponge. Allow the compound to set and dry thoroughly. This compound is available at home improvement stores.

    • 3

Measure the length and width of the floor with a measuring tape to find the center. Mark the center width and length lines with a pen.

    • 4

Remove the adhesive backing from the first tile. Place the tile in the center of the floor, as indicated by the lines you created.

    • 5

Remove the adhesive backing from the next tile. Place the next tile above or below the first one. Repeat the process to install all tiles.

    • 6

Cut a peel-and-stick tile to fit a corner with a utility knife or scissors. First, measure the length and width of the corner. Measure and draw the length and width that will need to be cut out of the tile on the back of it, and cut. Set the tile down and verify that it fits properly before removing the adhesive backing.
