It is also an excellent way to revitalize older hardwood floors, cover unattractive linoleum or add visual interest to boring concrete.Custom stencils can be expensive, but making your own is inexpensive. Instructions

    • 1

Draw the stencil pattern you want on a piece of thin cardboard, using a pencil. Cut the pattern out with a razor blade. Leave a 5-inch border of cardboard around the stencil so you have a spot to hold it down while you're painting.

    • 2

Remove the furniture from the room. Sweep away all dust and debris, using a broom and dustpan.

    • 3

Place the stencil on the floor in the spot where you want to start. Holding the stencil in place with one hand, use a paint roller to apply interior floor paint over the stencil. Do not press hard, or you will cause bleeding.

    • 4

Pick up the stencil, and move it to the next spot you want to paint. Hold it in place, and paint over it with the roller. Repeat until you have stenciled the entire floor in the pattern you want.

    • 5

Let the floor dry for at least 24 hours. Move the furniture back into place.
