How to Micro-Top Concrete

Micro-Top is a thin, flexible coating that is designed to bond to concrete. But the cement-like material also works with wood, plastic or metal. Micro-Top can be used for interior or exterior projects, on vertical or horizontal surfaces, and provides a durable finish that protects the underlying material in wet conditions. A variety of color options and combinations allows for unique designs that can be installed directly on bare, cured concrete. The finished application is only about as thick as a credit card. Micro-Top can be used over smooth or stamped concrete on floors, walls and concrete countertops.

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Concrete

    • 1

Clean dust and debris from the concrete. Vacuum the surface completely to remove all loose material.

    • 2

Inspect the surface for grease, oil, glue or other foreign materials that are staining or attached to the concrete. Use a degreasing cleaner to remove any grease and oil. Wash away the residue and allow the area to dry completely. Scrape, grind or sand any foreign material that protrudes from the floor to create a solid level surface. Clean any loose debris created in this process.

    • 3

Fill all cracks and chips by smoothly installing semi-rigid elastomeric crack filler with a wide putty knife.

    Applying the Micro-Top Finish

    • 4
You can create any color design or pattern you want.

Mark any design or pattern you want to use on the bare concrete with a marker. Label the color to be used for each area, creating a paint-by-number pattern directly on the concrete surface.

    • 5

Pour a small amount of Micro-Top base coat on a section of the prepared floor. Spread over the coverage area into a thin layer using a trowel or a squeegee. Continue this process until all areas are covered. Wait until this coat is dry to the touch.

    • 6

Apply the Micro-Top top coat using the same techniques as in Step 2. Allow this application to cure for 10-12 hours.

    • 7

Apply the acrylic sealer over the entire Micro-Top installation using a brush or paint roller. Let this finish dry completely before allowing traffic on the surface.
