How to Glue Carpet Remnants

Think twice before discarding your old carpet remnants. When getting new carpet, the installers may leave behind these potentially useful scraps. Cut the carpet remnants to form stair treads or replace a small section of carpet with an impossible stain. Gluing down the carpet remnants is the best way to ensure they stay in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the flooring on which you'll be attaching the carpet remnants. Scrub thoroughly to remove any debris. If you're patching a carpet, sand away any old carpet glue and remove the dust.

    • 2

Cut the carpet remnant down to the proper size for your specific project, using the carpet razor.

    • 3

Apply a layer of carpet adhesive to the floor with a trowel. Spread the adhesive evenly throughout the section where the remnant will adhere.

    • 4

Press the carpet remnant into the adhesive and flatten to ensure adhesion. If the remnant is larger than a few feet, roll a carpet roller lengthwise and widthwise over it.

    • 5

Let the carpet adhesive dry for at least 24 hours before using the carpeted area.
