How to Cut Laminate Around a Bathtub

Laminate flooring has the same elegant look as hardwood flooring but it is more durable. It can be installed in bathrooms as long as a moisture barrier is under the flooring to protect against overflows. When installing the flooring, you should begin on the wall opposite your bathtub, laying the plank next to the tub area last. This will ensure a proper fit and will let you apply a layer of silicone between the tub and the floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a template for the last plank next to the tub. Place a piece of craft paper into the area where the last piece of flooring will lay. Lay the paper so the edge fits next to the last plank you laid, and the extra paper folds up the side of the tub.

    • 2

Run a pencil along the paper at the base of the tub.

    • 3

Cut the pattern out of the craft paper using scissors.

    • 4

Place the pattern on your laminate floor and mark the pattern onto the laminate.

    • 5

Cut the pattern out of the laminate using a jigsaw. Cut carefully so you create a straight edge and cut on the proper edge. If the last plank laid had a groove, you will need to cut the groove side of the new plank.
