Scratch Resistant Flooring for Dogs

Laminate Flooring

• Laminate flooring is a manufactured wood flooring. This type of flooring generally consists of an easy-to-assemble backing with a thin piece of hardwood flooring over the top. Laminate flooring can also be 100 percent manufactured without the real wood topping. Laminate flooring is coated with a specific chemical, which makes the flooring scratch resistant. This flooring, however, can be slippery for dogs to walk on. This type of flooring is an option, but it is not the preferred option.

Carpet Flooring

• Carpeting is one of the best options for dogs. Carpeting provides a soft surface for paws and is also ideal for laying around. Carpeting, such as Berber, is not recommended, but cutpile is an exceptional option. Carpeting does not scratch or pull, which makes it an option that continues to remain attractive throughout the year.

Stone Tiles

• Stone tiles are ideal for homes with dogs, as they possess the ability to naturally dissolve any marks from scratches if they happen to occur. Stones generally do not scratch due to their hard surface and compressed composition. Stone tiles are a reliable option for protecting against scratches, but they are not extremely comfortable for dogs to walk on nor are they comfortable to lay on.

Wood Flooring

• Solid wood flooring is generally not scratch resistant, but applying a coating of urethane will create a scratch and stain resistant option for flooring. Hardwood flooring is also reliable and safe against accidents inside the home. Flooring also has the ability to be sanded down and refinished periodically to preserve a natural finish.
