What Colors Go With an Ash Stained Kitchen?

Ash is a light-colored wood, giving you plenty of versatility when you select colors for the flooring or cabinets in your kitchen. Common finishes for ash include a light or nearly transparent stain, a brown stain and a dark charcoal brown or black stain. Regardless of the color of ash stain you choose, you can match it to several colors in your kitchen.
  1. Light Ash

    • Light ash in a kitchen gives you many different options for matching colors. Because the ash is light, choose a dark color such as red, charcoal or dark blue for the walls. For the curtains in the kitchen, select a neutral background fabric, such as beige, with highlights that match your wall color. The countertop in an ash-colored kitchen should tie in with your appliances. If your appliances are dark, select a dark countertop in a shade of charcoal.

    Brown Ash

    • Matching colors to a brown ash kitchen is easy because brown is a safe, middle-of-the-road color of wood. You can opt for neutral colors to match a brown ash finish, such as sage or a light yellow. Avoid colors with significant shades of brown so your kitchen doesn't look entirely brown. Use colors on the lighter side of the spectrum, such as light gray, to keep your kitchen as bright as possible.

    Dark Ash

    • In a dark ash-colored kitchen, keep your walls and curtains on the lighter side of the color spectrum. Taupe and cream are each suitable for the kitchen's wall color. If you want to add life to the room, select curtains that contain bright colors, such as red and orange. Countertops can range significantly; keep them light to match the walls or dark to match the cupboards.

    Common Colors

    • Regardless of the color of the ash finish in your kitchen, choosing the room's complementary colors also depends on the room's features. If your kitchen has ample natural light, you can afford to paint your walls a slightly darker shade of a suitable color. If the kitchen doesn't have a window, keep the walls and decorations as light as possible. If the ash-colored kitchen is small, make the wall colors similar to the shade of the ash, as contrast can often make rooms appear smaller.
