Clean the floor with a broom and dustpan. Remove any debris and try to make the wooden floor boards smooth.
Brush two coats of primer on the wooden floor to seal it and keep moisture away from the vinyl floor tiles. Dilute the first coat with half primer and half water. Keep the second coat full strength primer. Use a wallpaper roller brush with a full-length pole to brush the floor in even strokes.
Decide upon the layout of the tiles before setting the first tile. Set the tiles on the floor in the pattern you like without removing the papers from the back of the tiles. This process may take a few moments because once the tiles have been placed, they cannot be picked up and moved.
Find the center of the room by drawing chalk marks in diagonal lines from opposing corners. Lay the first tile on the floor with the center of the tile in the spot where the diagonal lines cross.
Fill the floor with the tiles in the pattern you chose by building out from the center tile. This can be done in one of two ways: building around the first tile in an outward spiral pattern or by building from the center tile into a corner and repeating the process for each corner.
Measure the length from the last tile to the wall and cut the new tile to that measurement using a vinyl tile cutter.
