Three-Season Room Concrete Floor Options

A three-season room is a living space that is funtional during all seasons except winter. The room is usually an outdoor space like a porch, patio or sunroom that has a roof to protect it from strong winds, rain and excessive sun exposure. If your three-season room has a concrete floor, there are some functional eye-appealing ideas that can help make the floor area more attractive.
  1. Concrete Stain

    • Over the past decade, concrete stains have become increasingly popular. Visit your local hardware or paint store and select a concrete stain that complements your three-season room decor. Choose installation methods to create a marble or texturized appearance if you want to add artistic value. Some concrete stains contain acids, so make sure you remove all your furnishings before staining and wear protective clothing.

    Throw Rugs

    • A simple idea for your concrete floor is to incorporate throw rugs into your three-season room design. Select solid neutral-colored throw rugs for a uniform conservative style, or opt for patterned decorative rugs to add contrast and color to the room. Purchase throw rugs that are resistant to fading or apply a protective finish. Even small amounts of sun exposure can cause the dye in fabrics to fade over time.

    Indoor-Outdoor Carpet

    • If you prefer wall-to-wall carpet in your three-season room, select an indoor-outdoor carpet grade that can withstand the natural elements. This type of carpet is installable over concrete. To avoid difficulty removing the carpet in the future, avoid excessive gluing and nailing. If you cut the carpet to fit or select a carpet remnant that is suitable for the area, furniture will likely hold the carpet in place without needing permanent adhesives. Since a three-season room usually has an entryway that leads to the frontyard or backyard, it is easy to track dirt into the room. An indoor-outdoor carpet is designed to reduce the appearance of dirt and holds up well when exposed to limited amounts of moisture and sun exposure. Avoid wall-to-wall carpet in light colors such as white or off-white if your three-season room is a high traffic area.

    Tile

    • Ceramic, porcelain and slate floor tiles are a best option for a three-season room if you want to cover over your concrete flooring completely. Tile installation is considered a permanent flooring option, although it can be removed with specific tools and chemicals that can damage your existing concrete floor. Most tile is made from clay, so it will keep your flooring cool like concrete. Select solid-colored or speckled tile for a cohesive room design, or choose patterned mosaic tile, slate tile or marble-designed tile for a coloful floor pattern.
