DIY Curtain Bracket on the Ceiling

Installing curtains all the way up to the ceiling creates a curtain wall that breaks up a large room into two smaller parts and adds a stylish touch to the space. The curtain divider increases privacy while allowing light to filter through. Instead of hiring a professional, make it a DIY project by mounting ceiling brackets, to which the curtain tracks are attached. Use a sturdy stepladder and assign a helper to hold the ladder down in place while you mount the screws.

Instructions

    • 1

Mark the desired locations for curtain brackets on the ceiling using masking tape or a pencil. Measure and mark the points on the ceiling along the span of the room, spaced 3 to 4 feet apart. Check that the marks are in line with a level, and correct them if necessary. Hold a bracket up against each mark and mark each screw hole on the ceiling with pencil.

    • 2

Wear a facemask and safety glasses to keep the debris out of your eyes. Position the tip of a power drill over the marked spot on the ceiling. Drill a hole through the mark until its head falls flush with the surface of the ceiling. Remove the length of masking tape if you used it to mark the drilling hole on the ceiling.

    • 3

Insert a drywall anchor into each hole, until its tip falls flush with the surrounding ceiling surface. Tap it lightly with a rubber mallet to drive it all the way through the hole.

    • 4

Position a mounting bracket over the drywall anchor. Align the bracket so its screw hole is directly above the hole in the anchor. Hold this bracket in place with your free hand.

    • 5

Insert a screw into the hole using a drill with a screwdriver bit. Alternatively, use a screwdriver to tighten the screw in the anchors and secure the brackets to the ceiling. Continue securing the mounting brackets to the ceiling this way.

    • 6

Tug a bracket or grasp it in your hand and wiggle it gently to check whether it gives in and comes loose. If it does, tighten the screws so they stand up to the weight of the rod and drapes.
