How to Hang a Hammock From Your Roof

Hammocks are almost always hung outside, between trees or on a hammock stand. Traditionally, however, they were used as beds by South American natives and British sailors, so there's definitely precedent for using hammocks indoors. Hanging a hammock from your roof or ceiling is very easy, though it must be done slightly differently for hammocks with spreader bars than for those that lack them.

Instructions

    • 1

If your room or porch has a finished ceiling underneath the roof trusses, use a stud finder to locate the solid wood beams.

    • 2

Hold one end of the hammock up to the ceiling, and have an assistant do the same with the other end. Decide which trusses to hang your hammock from so that the unoccupied hammock will hang approximately 4 feet above the floor if it has spreader bars, or 6 feet if it does not.

    • 3

Pre-drill a hole in both of the selected trusses and insert a large screw eye into both holes. Run a snap hook through the loop of both screw eyes and hang the hammock from them.
