How to Frame Doors for Laminate Hardwoods

Cutting hardwood laminate flooring to fit around an elaborate door frame architrave -- the shaped wood that covers the gap between the door frame and the wall -- can be a very tricky task. It's much simpler to just cut the bottom section away from the architrave. This will save a lot of work and give you a much cleaner finish than trying to carve out the outline of the door frame in the boards with a jigsaw.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your hardwood laminate board on the ground next to the door frame's architrave. Make sure that you've already installed the underlayment for the flooring. If you haven't, the measurements you take will be wrong.

    • 2

Push your hardwood laminate board against the bottom of your then frame. Make a mark with a pen all the way around the architrave where the top of the board meets it.

    • 3

Remove the part of the architrave below the mark you made with a handsaw. This will allow you to slot your hardwood laminate board beneath the architrave.
