Use a tape measure to record the dimensions your desired awning location.
Buy canvas fabric for your awning using your measurements. Add about 4 inches of extra fabric to hem the edges of the awning.
Sew hems on each edge of the canvas with a sewing machine and nylon thread.
Place a grommet on the four corners of the canvas.
Measure the distance between the two grommets on each side of your canvas.
Mark the grommet distance for each side on your wood siding where the awning will attach to your wall.
Attach the wooden siding to the wall using your electric drill. Drill two pilot holes into your wood siding for your hooks.
Place the key rings and their corresponding hooks into each grommet you have installed in the canvas. Place the hooks into the pilot holes and attach the canvas to the wood siding.
Spread out the canvas on the floor of your desired location to determine the location of your support poles. Line the poles to correspond with the grommets you have attached.
Erect each pole securely in the ground. You may dig them into 6-inch holes in soil or prop the poles securely with sand bags on a flat surface.
Slip each pole through the corresponding grommet.
Tie two pieces of rope by each pole near the grommet. Arrange one rope at a 90-degree angle to the pole and allow the second rope to hang.
Adjust the tension of each hanging rope to achieve the desired visual effect of your awning.
