How to Paint With Glaze for a Golden Yellow Wall

Spread out a drop cloth flat on the floor beneath the wall you plan to paint.

Affix painter’s tape carefully along adjacent edges surrounding the wall, including windows, doorways, baseboards, crown molding, ceilings and connecting walls.

Dip a trim brush into latex primer and cut in carefully around the perimeter of the wall.

Pour the primer into a paint tray and load a paint roller. Apply the primer over the wall in an even layer. Allow the primer to dry thoroughly.

Load the trim brush with satin latex paint and cut in around the perimeter of the wall.

Pour the paint into the paint tray and apply the paint over the wall surface with the paint roller using the same method you used for the primer. Allow the first coat of paint to dry, then apply a second coat. Allow the second coat to dry thoroughly.

Pour latex glaze into the paint tray. Load the paint roller and apply the glaze over a 5-foot area of the wall. Set the paint roller aside momentarily.

Wad a clean, lint-free rag in your hand and press it firmly onto the wet glaze to remove some of the glaze from the wall. As you remove the glaze, the yellow base color will become more visible through the golden glaze. Continue pressing the rag onto the wall to remove as much or as little of the glaze as you desire.

Apply glaze to another section of the wall with the paint roller and use the rag again to remove some of the glaze. Continue working in this fashion until the wall has a golden yellow look with the combination of yellow base color and golden glaze.

Allow the paint to dry completely. Remove the painter’s tape.
