Adding Spackle Stucco to a Wood Project

When you are working on a wood project, you may want to cover the wood with another finish to make it look as thought it were made out of a different material. For example, cover a wooden project with stucco to make it appear as if it is constructed out of earth or stone. You do not have to have the wooden project professionally stuccoed. Instead, cover the project with stucco yourself using a few basic materials that you can find at a hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand all of the wood that you want to cover in stucco using a sanding buffer with a medium-grain sanding ring. This will remove any splintering and large areas of roughness.

    • 2

Sand the wood again using the sanding buffer with a fine-grain sanding ring. This will make the surface smooth and even.

    • 3

Vacuum the wood to remove saw duct caused by the sanding, then wipe off the wood using a damp washcloth. Let the wood dry for 30 minutes.

    • 4

Spread stucco spackle over the entire surface of the wood using a trowel. Use random, thick strokes if you want the finished look to be more rustic, or use smooth, even strokes if you want the finished look to be more refined. Allow the stucco to dry for eight hours.

    • 5

Paint a layer of clear stucco sealant over the stucco, then allow the sealant to dry for four hours.
