Remove the door from the door frame by unscrewing it from the hinges with a screwdriver. Place the door on top of a table or any flat surface.
Pour metal spirit onto a cloth and wipe the steel door surface, cleaning it thoroughly.
Dip a paintbrush in the can of wood stain and then apply the wood stain onto the door. Apply the stain in sections. Then draw the grain tool on the surface of the door in a rocking motion. This will create a wood grain look on the door. Wipe excess stain left on the grain tool with a rag.
Use a dry brush to simulate the wood grain effect on areas that the grain tool cannot reach. Brush the area in light strokes.
Let the door dry once you have achieved the wood grain look that you want. Leave the door to dry completely overnight.
Apply a thin tone coat of wood stain on the steel door using a cloth. Make sure that you apply only a thin coat of stain because a thick coat will hide the wood grain effect you created earlier.
Use a dry brush to remove or spread any excess stain left on the door. Lightly brush over the excess stain and spread it over the door.
Wait for the door to dry completely before putting it back into the door frame.
