Prepare for your paint job by taping off all baseboards, the ceiling and all outlets. Press the tape down firmly and smooth over it with your fingers to help ensure that the paint won't bleed beneath.
Paint your base coat. Do this by using your brush to do the edges and the roller for the rest. This technique is called cutting in and it helps prevents mistakes. Wait for the paint to dry thoroughly, usually at least six hours.
Test your sponge. To do this, apply a small amount of paint to the sponge, taking care not to saturate it. Place the newspaper against the wall and test your technique a few times. Test out your different colors if you have them. Make at least a few stamps you are really happy with before moving on.
Paint the bricks. Carefully apply the sponge to the wall the same way you did to the newspaper, starting at one corner of the wall. Stagger your stamps just like real bricks for the best effect. If you need to create a half brick, try using some newspaper.
Cut the sponge into smaller pieces when you are done with all the bricks and use the smaller bits you have cut to fill in any spaces you may have missed.
Remove the tape after your project dries and be sure to rinse your brushes, roller and any other tools completely clean for next time immediately when you're done painting.
