How to Cut Crown Molding Using a Compound Miter Saw

Crown molding is typically used for ceilings of rooms on the interior of the house. No matter the type of ceiling or the size, there is always a form of crown molding that will fit just right. The angle of the cut for a cathedral ceiling is different than the angle of a cut for a horizontal ceiling. A compound miter saw can cut molding to an angle that can fit either of these ceilings.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the miter saw up on a table or other stable foundation.

    • 2

Measure the crown molding and mark with a pencil at the desired place for the angle to be cut.

    • 3

Line the crown molding up by propping it against the fence where the cut is to be made. Then set the blade to the desired miter angle.

    • 4

Turn on the saw and pull down on the handle so the blade goes completely through the molding, while keeping a hand firmly on the molding so it does not move. Let go of the handle once finished and the saw blade will stop.
