Clean the drying rack and cabinet door, removing all dust, dirt and any other debris.
Tape off the area you will turn into faux marble. Paint a primer coat of white on the cabinet and drying rack, using the 1-inch brush on the drying rack. Let the paint dry.
Paint the base coat on the cabinet with a roller. Allow it to dry for 4 to 6 hours. Paint another coat on the cabinet.
While the cabinet base coat dries, paint a base coat on the drying rack.Take care not to fill the screw holes of the rack with paint; brush over these areas very lightly. Wait 24 hours after the second coats before continuing.
Apply glaze in large, wiggly streaks, one of each color. Smudge the glaze into the paint carefully with a cloth. Blend the two colors to make a cloudy fog on top of the base coat. Check the sample photo to get the colors and blend just right.
Vein the marble after you have sufficiently added the darker tones and the entire background of your marble texture. Refer to the marble photo and use the thin artist's brush. Spend the time it takes to allow your glaze to dry, planning and practicing veining on newspaper. Smudge the veins out with the cloth, but not as drastically as the glazes. When the glaze is completely dry, complete the veins you'd like on your cabinet. Allow to dry completely.
Finish the cabinet and rack with varnish, following the manufacturer's directions. Double-coat the rack. Once both surfaces are completely dry, mark the holes for the screws for the brackets to hold the rack in place.
Secure the rack to the faux marble cabinet with the screws. Use your drill and level to ensure the rack is straight and secure against the cabinet.
