Buy paint with a high-gloss finish in the color that you want your walls to be. If you want your walls to resemble a specific kind of candy, you will need to buy the color or colors that are associated with that candy. For example, if you want the walls to look like Lemonheads, you will need a bright, lemon yellow. You can also do a combination, like white and red for peppermint candies.
Sand the walls of the room you want to paint with an electric sander and 220- to 240-grit sandpaper. This removes any blemishes on the wall and creates a smooth surface. The finish of the high-gloss paint will emphasize imperfections on the wall.
Prime the walls with interior paint primer so the high gloss paint will stick to the walls and spread evenly. Apply two coats of primer. Make sure the surface is nice and smooth.
Cover the wall moulding, window frames and edges of the ceiling with blue tape. Use a sponge paint brush to first apply paint around the edges of the walls. Sponge paint brushes won't cause streaks like bristle paint brushes. High-gloss paints, too, show the streaks more than duller finishes. Paint two or three coats. Allow each coat to dry completely before adding the next.
Add stripes by measuring for accuracy with a yardstick and taping off the sections where the stripes will be added. Paint the stripes with a clean sponge brush and apply more coats until completely opaque. Wait for the paint to dry completely before removing the tape.
