How to Glaze Tissue Paper Walls

Rather than just applying tissue paper to a wall, maximize the effect by adding glaze. Glazing the wall highlights the peaks and the valleys left by the tissue paper. Add more interest as you bring out the different textures and designs within the paper. Although the process is not necessary, it gives a new dimension to the paint treatment and can substitute for a final coat of paint.

Things You'll Need

  • 3-gallon bucket
  • Glaze
  • Sponge (preferably sea sponge)
  • Work gloves

Instructions

    • 1

Mix the glaze according to the manufacturer's directions. Pour it into a bucket. Put on your work gloves.

    • 2

Dip the sponge into the bucket and squeeze out the excess. Rub the sponge crosswise in a 3- to 4-foot square area of the wall. Press down gently as the tissue paper is delicate.

    • 3

Dip the sponge again. Make lengthwise swipes with the sponge over the same area. Step back and review your work to see if all the area received an application of glaze.

    • 4

Work in a small square area for uniformity. Step back periodically to examine the effect. Continue until you have glazed all the walls.

    • 5

Allow the glaze to dry. Touch up any area that is dull. Reapply glaze if you want a darker tint.
