How to Make Concrete Look Like Granite

Wash the concrete area with a mix of water and mild dish detergent. Rinse the concrete thoroughly to remove all of the soap. Wait two days for the concrete to air dry all the way through.

Apply long strips of painter's tape along areas where the concrete connects to backsplashes, walls, cabinets and other items. Protect the floors and other surfaces or furniture near the concrete area with heavy tarps. Wrap cabinets and doors with newspaper, and shield backsplashes with layers of overlapping painter's tape.

Apply a thin, even layer of black primer on the entire surface of the concrete with a paint roller. Cover any edges in primer as well, using an artists' sponge brush. Allow the primer to dry for six to 12 hours.

Distribute mineral powder over the surface of the sponge. Drag the sponge all over the primed concrete to apply the minerals. Place the minerals as randomly as possible for a natural look.

Wait two hours. Look over the concrete and identify any raised or rough areas. Hand sand these places smooth using 320-grit sandpaper.

Exchange the paint roller roll for a clean one. Roll the clear topcoat onto the top of the concrete in the same way that you did the primer. Switch to a clean artists' sponge brush and prime the edges of the area.

Allow the topcoat to dry eight to 12 hours. Check again for rough or uneven areas and hand-sand them with a new piece of 320-grit sandpaper. Add a second application of topcoat and let it dry 48 hours.
