How to Use Powder Plaster for Venetian Plaster

Choose the color of tinted plaster that best matches your decoration plans. A variety of tinted powder plasters can be bought which will work.

Prepare the surface to be plastered by sanding down the walls and cleaning with a damp rag. Be rough with the sandpaper and remove all glossiness. The rougher the surface, the more authentic the effect. Move all light furniture and appliances and cover with sheets anything that cannot be moved.

Place a small amount of the tinted plaster onto the trowel. Gently rub the plaster in a circular motion onto the wall, applying thinly. When the whole wall has been coated, leave to dry for four hours.

Apply a second coat of the tinted plaster, using a thicker coat and pressing harder. The harder the second coat is applied, the smoother the finish will be. Allow to dry for an hour.

Rub the wall with a damp rag to remove excess dust from the semi-solid plaster. After this has dried, apply the protective finishing coat, and allow to dry completely. As it dries, it will take on the appearance of Venetian plaster. Allow to dry completely before allowing children or animals into the room.
