Sand the wooden object with fine-grit sandpaper to prepare the surface for the paint treatment.
Clean the surface of the wood with a tack cloth to remove dust just before painting.
Apply a base coat of paint with a craft brush. Allow the paint to dry at least four hours.
Sand the corners and edges lightly to simulate areas of wear on the wooden object. Wipe off the surface with a tack cloth.
Brush on an antiquing glaze over the painted wooden object. This will help create the primitive style by aging the appearance of the finish. Allow the glaze to dry for at least four hours.
Apply an even coat of clear wood sealant. Allow the sealant to dry 24 hours before handling the object.
