Prepare your work area by removing all furnishings away from the wall. Cover remaining items with painters plastic. Place tarps on the ground to protect flooring.
Choose a grout color for the brick; commonly, light gray is used but any light color will work. Pour gray eggshell paint into a paint tray. Use a mini roller to apply the paint onto all areas where the faux brick will appear. Allow the paint to dry.
Use ¾ inch painter's tape and apply in horizontal lines over the gray grout paint. The space between the tape is the how wide the brick will be. Stick the tape in vertical portions on the wall to create the final look of brick. Use a razor blade or scissors to cut the tape. Rub all sections of tape well into the wall.
Pour three different colors onto paint trays or paper plates. Use three shades of red, beige or orange for different looks. Dip a sea sponge into water and ring out excess water. Dab the sponge into each of the colors at the same time. Apply the sponge to the wall, directly onto the sections where brick is. Continue to add different colors for depth and dimension. Allow the paint to dry.
Mix together black or dark brown latex paint and clear glaze in a one to one ratio. Dip a chip brush into the mixture and wipe over the brick wall. Take a terry towel and rub the mixture onto the brick for a stained look. Allow the paint to dry about 24 hours.
Peel off the painter's tape slowly. Use a razor blade to pick up the edge of the tape if it is difficult to locate. Heat the tape with a hair dryer if it seems stuck on the wall.
