Apply two layers of primer to the molding, allowing each coat to dry. This will allow paint to adhere to the surface.
Apply a thin layer of brown glaze, using a small paintbrush.
Engrain vertical lines on the surface of the molding by brushing the glaze with a clean and dry paintbrush.
Coat the surface with a thin layer of clear glaze and allow it to dry for 15 minutes.
Paint wood grain lines onto the surface using a thin paint brush and tinted glaze. Mimic real wood grain. Start with an oval shape as the "heart" of the wood and add vertical lines to complete the look.
Brush the surface lightly with a clean brush. This will soften the glaze and make it look like real wood.
Apply a final layer of dark glaze to dull the overall color.
Apply a thin layer of varnish to protect your faux wood.
