How to Apply Texture to Corners & Edges

When plastering, the corners and edges of a wall are tricky areas. Plaster should be evenly applied and have the same look and consistency as the remainder of the plaster job. Use a variety of tools from your basic drywall trowel to an old cut up credit card, to reach all areas. If the plaster or texture doesn't match exactly, most people will not be able to tell. Once painted, the textured wall will look very even in coloration without highlighting the corners or edges.

Use the sharp edge of a trowel and tuck it exactly into the corner of the wall. Swipe outwards with the trowel and spread the plaster out from the inner corner. Follow the same technique with wall edges near baseboards and molding. Hold the trowel firmly with your hand and swipe up and out.

Use a special blending tool for round, or bull nose corners. Purchase the tool at most hardware stores. Place the tool against the plaster covered round edge. Wipe downwards to create a smooth finish on the curve of the corner.

Sand all types of corners and edges just in case you apply the texture unevenly. Use light-grit sandpaper. Wipe down the edges and corners after sanding to remove all dust. Finish your project by applying latex paint with an angled brush or rollers along the corners and edges.
