Instructions

    • 1

Lay a drop cloth on the floor to protect the area where you are working. If the item you want to glaze is portable, do this technique in a well-ventilated area such as a garage. If you cannot move the item, make sure to open windows to ventilate the area. Set the item onto the drop cloth.

    • 2

Pour glaze into the plastic container. You want enough glaze to complete your project so that the color is uniform. Pour a small amount of stain into the glaze and mix. Test the glaze on a scrap piece of wood to check the color. Continue adding stain and mixing until you reach the color you desire.

    • 3

Remove any hardware with a screwdriver.

    • 4

Apply the glaze to the item with a stiff paintbrush in the direction of the wood grain. Use the lint-free cloth to wipe away the excess stain. If you want a depth to your finish, remove a good amount of stain from the raised areas and leave more stain in the recessed areas. Let the stain dry for 24 hours.

    • 5

Lightly sand the item with sandpaper. Wipe away the dust with a tack cloth.

    • 6

Apply a coat of polyurethane with a foam paintbrush. Let the polyurethane dry. If you want to apply a second coat, lightly sand the item and wipe away the dust before applying a second coat.
