Antiquing Leather

If you are looking for a way to change the appearance of your leather goods, try an antique finish. Creating a homemade antique finish will add a touch of style to your leather belongings. A do-it-yourself antique method requires just a few items and can be used to treat a variety of leather items, including tabletops, sofas, shoes and articles of clothing.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 oz. spray bottle
  • Water
  • 2 sponges
  • Antique finish paste
  • Cotton buffing cloth

Instructions

      Fill a 4 oz. spray bottle with water. Spray a light mist of water over the entire area of the leather item.

      Use a clean, dry sponge to remove a good amount of antique finish paste from the jar.

      Apply the antique finish paste to the leather. Rub the sponge in a circular motion over the surface of the leather item. Continue rubbing the antique paste into the leather until the entire desired area has been covered.

      Allow the paste to sit for 2 to 3 minutes.

      Use another clean, damp sponge to remove any excess paste from the leather.

      Allow the leather to dry for at least 30 minutes.

      Buff the leather with a cotton buffing cloth. Rub the buffing cloth over the leather surface in a circular motion.
