How to Finish Hidden Surfaces on Andersen Sliding Glass Doors

If you have a set of Andersen sliding glass doors in your home that need a little touching up, you can repair the finish on them with a paint pen designed for metal or wood surfaces, depending on the frame material. The surfaces that appear hidden on Andersen sliding glass doors are most often near the top or bottom of the doors or in the crevices.

Instructions

    • 1

Note the color of your Andersen sliding glass doors around the crevices and top and bottom borders. These surfaces are attachment corners for the glass to the door frame, and sometimes the door will be a different color, such as silver or gray.

    • 2

Take a photo of the door frame with your cell phone or a digital camera and take it with you to your local craft or home improvement store. Select a paint pen for either wood or metal, depending on the frame material.

    • 3

Shake the pen, take off the cap and press the tip onto a piece of paper repeatedly, up and down, until paint flows onto the paper.

    • 4

Open the sliding doors to access the hidden surfaces. Apply the paint pen directly onto the chipped surface of the door frame. Be sure to cover the surfaces that are hidden when the doors slide back and forth. Allow the paint to dry before using the doors.
