How to Change Window Panes on an Alena Window

Changing window panes with an Alena cling is an innovative way to transform the appearance of your home. The window clings add a stained glass look to the interior and add curb appeal to your house as well. Whether you desire a Victorian, country or modern look, Alena has a variety of styles to enhance every decor. The clings are relatively inexpensive. This makes it possible for a homeowner to change the appearance of the windows with the seasons or when redecorating.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the window pane you want to change with a tape measure, and jot the measurements down.

    • 2

Draw a template onto a plain sheet of paper by using the measurements. Add another line outside the template that extends about 1/2 inch from the design.

    • 3

Cut out the template with sharp scissors.

    • 4

Place the template on the backing of the Alena window cling. Do this on a flat surface, and trace around the template with a sharp pencil.

    • 5

Cut out the Alena window cling, and set it aside.

    • 6

Spray window cleaner onto the pane, and wipe it off with a soft cleaning cloth. Allow the pane to dry. This provides a clean surface and allows the Alena cling to adhere better.

    • 7

Twist the top off a clean, empty spray bottle, and add a couple of drops of liquid dishwashing detergent to it. Fill the bottle with water, and replace the cap.

    • 8

Spritz the soapy water onto the window pane you wish to change. Spray a generous amount. This allows the cling to float over the surface while you position it.

    • 9

Place the Alena cling on the window pane, and smooth it out with your fingers. Excess material around the cling is trimmed after the installation is complete. The area that touched the backing goes against the window pane.

    • 10

Spray the soapy water onto the area of the cling facing toward you.

    • 11

Swipe the squeegee included in the decor down the window cling. Working from the center outward provides the best results. It also removes any bubbles or wrinkles that occur during the installation.

    • 12

Trim the excess around the window cling with a utility knife. Use a gentle touch to prevent scratching the window pane. Pull away the excess with your fingers, and discard it.
