Instructions

  1. Metal Hardware

    • 1

Remove the old hinges from the wood cabinet with a screwdriver. Do the same with any door or drawer pulls you want to change. These pieces are quite simple to remove and install.

    • 2

Measure the space between the holes left by the hinges with a ruler. Jot down the measurement. This enables you to purchase new hinges that fit the space. This may also be necessary if drawer or door pulls have more than one screw holding them in place.

    • 3

Install the new hinges, door and drawer pulls with the screwdriver. This is a quick and inexpensive way to change the style and look of the wood cabinets.

    Pressed Tin

    • 4

Measure the size of the wood cabinet insert. Generally, there is a center section that is recessed. If not, simply measure the space you want to cover with pressed tin to add a metal feature to the cabinet doors.

    • 5

Ask the salesman at the home supply or hardware store to cut the pressed tin to your specifications if they do not have the size you need. This metal appears old-fashioned and is available in a variety of sizes. Pressed tin is often used to decorate ceilings or to create a back splash in a kitchen area.

    • 6

Mark the area you want to add the pressed tin to the wood cabinet with a piece of chalk.

    • 7

Add a construction adhesive to the back of the pressed tin. Use an adhesive that is formulated to glue metal to wood. Hold it in place for a few minutes to allow it to adhere to the wood.

    • 8

Wipe off the chalk marks with a damp, soft cloth.
