How to Decorate a Mirror Frame With Jewelry

Decorating a mirror frame with jewelry gives it a funky, Victorian or elegant look depending on the type of jewelry you use. Whether you collect vintage jewelry or just want to add a splash of color to the mirror frame with costume jewelry, this is a creative way to obtain the desired effect. Mounting the jewelry on the frame in the correct manner ensures that it does not fall off. It also helps it to drape well if you use necklaces or beads.

  • Newspapers or drop cloth

Instructions

    • 1

Cut any pieces off the jewelry that will prevent it from laying flat against the mirror frame surface, such as earring posts. Use tin snips or needle-nose pliers to do this.

    • 2

Lay the mirror frame on a flat surface covered with newspapers or a drop cloth.

    • 3

Arrange the jewelry pieces on the mirror frame to get an idea of the best placement. Use all gold-toned jewelry, all silver pieces, or create an eclectic look by mismatching the items or using colorful costume jewelry. Once you decide on the placement, remove the jewelry.

    • 4

Apply a dot of hot glue to the backside of the jewelry piece and immediately set it in place on the mirror frame. Hold the jewelry piece in place for about 5 seconds. This attaches it permanently to the frame. Use one of the other options if you want a temporary placement or want to change the design in the future.

    • 5

Remove the self-adhesive backing from one side of a hook and loop disc. Attach it to the mirror frame where you want to place a piece of jewelry. This works well for larger pieces, such as antique brooches. Peel off the backing from the other piece of hook and loop tape and attach it onto the back of the jewelry piece. Press the jewelry onto the hook and loop disc on the mirror frame. This allows you to remove the pieces quickly when you want a new look.

Roll museum wax or putty into a tiny ball, press it to the back of the jewelry piece and then onto the mirror frame. It is simple to remove when you want to change the frame.
