How to Hide a Wood Stove

While a wood stove can be a desirable feature in a home, it may clash with the style of furnishings. In other cases, it may be old and run-down. When removal of the wood stove isn’t an option, hide it using one of several methods. All these ways are easily modifiable if you need to use the stove.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a room divider such as a lightweight Japanese shoji screen in front of the wood stove. Unfold it and position it so it conceals the stove. Hinged room dividers allow more flexibility than a single-panel divider.

    • 2

Create a curtain wall in front of the wood stove. Mount a high-tension curtain wire between the two walls on opposite sides of the wall where the wood stove is. Place curtain clips on the wire and clip a floor-to-ceiling piece of fabric in place. Slide the fabric across the wire to hide the stove; slip it out of the way to use the stove.

    • 3

Drape a piece of fabric or an old blanket over the wood stove for a quick and cost-effective way to hide it. Choose a color that matches the existing furniture in the room.

    • 4

Place a tall piece of furniture such as a solid wood bookcase or armoire in front of the wood stove that sits directly against a wall.
