How to Decorate Home Canned Jars

Canning your own fruits and vegetables at home allows you to save money and preserve goods for extensive periods of time. If you have an open pantry, displaying your canned jars to family and guests may be your only option. Decorating your jars will spruce up the look of your pantry while adding to the room's atmosphere. Gather all the canned jars you intend to decorate, to determine the amount of supplies you'll need, as well as to start planning your designs.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of your canning jar lids' diameter, using a measuring tape or ruler.

    • 2

Cut pieces of colorful card stock or construction paper to top your canning jar lids, using a compass and the lid measurement.

    • 3

Decorate each lid top you cut out -- using stencils, stickers and stamps to reflect the contents. If you plan to give home-canned jars as holiday gifts, use themed colors to decorate them -- such as green, red and white for Christmas or pastel shades for Easter.

    • 4

Wrap and tie ribbons around the base of your canning jars, and secure them into place by tying a nice bow. Match the color of your bow with the color of your lid decoration. Secure the bow in place on the jar by using craft glue or other glass-friendly adhesive.

    • 5

Write the contents of the jars on adhesive labels. Then attach the labels to the jars. Use colored labels, or stick with white ones -- using markers and stencils to add a custom look to your collection.
