How to Make a Ceiling Curtain

Ceiling curtains add a striking focal point to any room. These tall curtains are especially useful for rooms with low ceilings or those that require a divider. Ceiling curtains can be placed at a window, around a bed, as a wall decoration or even in the middle of a room. The key is determining your individual decorating need and the stress that will be placed on the fabric. For homes with small children or pets that may pull on the curtain, special anchors should be used during installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area where the curtains will be installed. You need to know the total length of the area and the height of the room. Divide the length by two and add 1 foot to it for the side hem and some added fabric for a more draped appearance. Add 2 feet to the height for the top pocket, bottom hem and floor draping.

    • 2

Cut your fabric to the proper length then set it with the design side face-down. If your fabric does not have a design, either side will do.

    • 3

Fold all of the edges by 1/4-inch then 1/2-inch and pin the double fold in place. This is the curtain’s hem.

    • 4

Fold the top edge in another 3 inches to form the pocket. Make sure to use plenty of pins so that the fabric does not slip while sewing.

    • 5

Straight-stitch the hems and pocket with your sewing machine.

    • 6

Hang your ceiling curtains following the manufacturer’s instructions for the anchors.
