Run a measuring tape from the floor up to the ceiling. Have someone assist you by holding the bottom of the measuring tape steady while you’re on the ladder reaching to the ceiling. Run the measuring tape across the room at the specific point where you’ll install the curtains.
Obtain curtains that are high enough to reach from floor to ceiling and wide enough to reach across the room with some extra. Depending on curtain type and room size, you may need to get more than one set to fully divide the room.
Locate a stud closest to the area where you’re placing the room divider. Depending on the layout of the room, the wood framing behind the walls may have a piece that spans completely across the area where wall and ceiling meet. Mark the area with a pencil, about 1 inch below the ceiling. Find the opposite stud directly across the room and also mark.
Use a drill to create starter holes at each mark. Twist a 50-lb. capacity eyehook into each hole.
Cut a piece of airplane wire that reaches the distance between the eyehooks plus an additional 10 inches.
String 5 inches of the cut airplane wire through one eyehook and fold it over. Secure in place with wire clips. Thread the other end of the airplane wire through the end of a turnbuckle hook, fold over 5 inches and secure with wire clips.
Put the hook on the end of the turnbuckle into the opposite eyehook. Tighten the turnbuckle until the wire becomes tight.
Line the airplane wire with curtain clips and then attach the curtains. Pull them out to divide the room.
