Girly Ideas for Decorating a Wooden Daybed

When decorating a small bedroom, a daybed is an ideal addition because it not only provides a place to sleep but seating for the space as well. While daybeds come in a variety of materials, wooden frames are typically the most common. If you are decorating a bedroom for a girl who finds a plain wooden daybed boring, you can dress up the frame in a variety of girly ways. Consider the personality of the girl when choosing a look, so you know whether to try a subtle approach or a bold, flashy look.
  1. Stencils

    • Stencils are one of the easiest ways to give a wooden daybed a girly makeover. You can find them at the craft store in a variety of cute shapes and patterns, such as hearts, flowers, stars and butterflies. Depending on the look that you prefer, you can paint the daybed frame in a base color, such as white, light pink or yellow, or leave it with its natural wood finish before adding the stencils. You can also create your own stencils by tracing images on cardboard and cutting them out. Polka dot stencils are easy to create yourself, and can add a sweet, girly look to the bed, particularly if you use shades of pink and purple to color the dots.

    Wrapping Paper Decoupage

    • Another option for adding a feminine look to a wooden daybed frame is decoupage. Decoupage uses special adhesive to add paper items to wooden surfaces. When decorating a daybed for a girl’s bedroom, wrapping paper is an ideal material for decoupaging. It is inexpensive and comes in a wide range of patterns and designs. You can choose any style that you like, but a sweet floral pattern or a fun heart design is an ideal option. Apply the decoupage adhesive to the back of the wrapping paper and set the pieces in place, smoothing them out to avoid air bubbles. Finish off with a coat of adhesive on top of the paper images to secure them in place. You can add a few accent images from the wrapping paper in corners of the bed frame or cover the entire wooden surface with pieces of wrapping paper. If you only plan to decoupage a few areas on the bed frame, you can paint it with a basecoat of pink or purple for a more decorative look.

    Beads

    • For the girl who prefers a bejeweled look for her daybed, use plastic beads from the craft store to decorate the frame. Find beads in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes, so you can customize the look to match the rest of the bedroom’s decor. However, it’s usually easier to adhere beads with flat backs to the bed frame. Choose an adhesive that dries to a clear finish so it won’t be visible on the bed frame when you’re finished. Paint the daybed with a basecoat in a bright color and use a pencil to trace a pattern for the beads after the paint has dried, so you know where to place them.

    Fabric

    • If you enjoy sewing, you can use fabric to give your daybed a sweet, feminine look. Choose a fabric with a pattern that you like, such as floral or toile, and create a ruffled skirt to cover the bottom of the wooden bed frame. You can add lace or fringed trim to embellish the skirt for a more decorative look. If you aren’t a fan of patterns, try a luxurious solid fabric like satin or velvet to create an elegant skirt.
