How to Make an Attachable Headboard With Photos

Headboards are an opportunity to show off your personal style and creativity. Incorporate photos into your headboard to take advantage of this opportunity. You can make an attachable headboard with photos using reclaimed wooden shutters. Use four shutters and attach them to the wall using traditional shutter hinges, which are called pintles. The pintles will allow you remove the headboard any time you like and interchange it with different hinges for a completely different appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the shutters on a work surface and brush them lightly with a wire brush to remove any loose paint or other debris from them. Wipe the shutters clean with a tack cloth.

    • 2

Brush an even coat of shellac onto each shutter with a paintbrush. Allow the shellac to dry 24 hours and apply a second coat. Allow the final coat to dry 24 hours.

    • 3

Lay the shutters out flat on a work surface in pairs. Orient the shutters vertically. Position one pintle set on the outside edge of each shutter, 6 inches in from each end. Fasten the shutter half of the pintles onto the shutters with the screws included with the pintle sets, using a screw gun.

Hold the shutters against the wall where the headboard is to be located. Orient the shutters vertically in pairs, side by side. Fasten the wall half of each pintle set to the wall using the included screws with a screw gun. You can now lift the shutters on and off the wall by separating the pintle halves.
