How to Get Cricut Letters to Adhere to Walls

Letters cut with a Cricut machine come with a peel-off backing, but, sometimes, the letters are quite narrow and the removal of the backing causes them to tear. Wrinkling may also occur if you attempt to stick the letters to the wall in this way. Using transfer tape in the correct manner ensures that none of the letters are torn or damaged while adhering them to a wall surface. It also keeps them aligned properly for placement. Using Cricut letters is an interesting way to put your initials, monogram, designs and quotations on a wall or anywhere you desire a personalized effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray an all-purpose cleaner on the area where you want to apply the Cricut lettering.

    • 2

Wipe the cleaner off immediately with a damp cleaning cloth or sponge. This removes any dust or grimy residue that affects how well the letters stick to the wall.

    • 3

Remove the backing carefully from the Cricut lettering by peeling it off with your fingers.

    • 4

Lay the Cricut letters on a flat surface. Place it with the side up where you removed the backing.

    • 5

Place the transfer tape onto the Cricut letters on the side facing up.

    • 6

Press the tape down well with the palms of your hands.

    • 7

Turn the letters over so that you can remove the vinyl backing from the backside. If the letters start to peel off with the tape, place the transfer tape back down and smooth it out again with your hands. Remove all the backing.

    • 8

Place the Cricut letters on the wall so they are in the correct position. If you apply the tape lightly, it can be removed and positioned again if it is not straight.

    • 9

Rub over the lettering with the applicator tool. This removes any air bubbles and helps the letters adhere. If the transfer tape does not include a tool, use the rounded edge of a butter knife. This is called burnishing.

    • 10

Peel off the transfer tape at a 180-degree angle. Watch the letters carefully to ensure they do not start to come off with the tape. If so, replace the transfer tape and burnish it again. Peel the tape off completely.
