How to Frame a Chalkboard Wall

Chalkboard walls are modern, stylish additions to any room. Placing a border around chalkboard space will highlight the area, creating visual interest and separating the scribbling surface from surrounding items. Before selecting a frame option for your chalkboard, determine the amount of time and resources you want to put into the project.

Instructions

    • 1

Hang a picture frame around the chalkboard space. If an entire wall has been covered in chalkboard paint, consider using several frames in various sizes, and arrange them to your liking. Offset a more concentrated spot by hanging a single frame around the painted area. If cost is an issue, look for inexpensive frames at thrift stores, flea markets and discount stores.

Apply a wallpaper border around your chalkboard. Select a colorful border for a child's room or coordinate colors and patterns to match the kitchen, living room or hallway. Self-adhesive and traditional wall coverings are available at most home improvement stores.

Paint your own “frame” with conventional wall paint. To ensure an even border, measure the space around the chalkboard area, mark the edges with pencil and tape off the markings with painter’s tape. The painted frame can be any width you like. To avoid paint spills and drips on an existing chalkboard wall, cover its surface with paper, and affix the paper to the wall with additional strips of painter’s tape.
