Instructions

    • 1

Cover a piece of foam core board in a layer of chalkboard paint. Use a board that’s large enough to extend at least 3 inches above, below and to the sides of the breaker box. Place Velcro strips on the back of the foam core and on the wall around it. Stick into place and the child can use it as a place to draw with chalk.

Cut a piece of corkboard in a size that covers the circuit breaker box. Cut a hole in the spot where the door latch is to leave it exposed. Apply a layer of glue with a roller to the back of the corkboard and stick it onto the box door. Use as a bulletin board. Pin a picture over the exposed latch handle to hide all box components.

Hang a kid-friendly framed picture on the wall that’s large enough to cover the breaker box. Locate studs on either side of the box and nail picture hooks into it. Span a picture wire across the frame’s back and slip it onto the hooks.

Cover the circuit breaker box with vinyl wall clings. Allow the child to select her own, as they come in a range of kid-friendly designs, such as cartoon characters or colorful patterns. Peel the paper off the back and stick onto the metal door. Rearrange as often as desired, as they leave no residue behind and are reusable.

Use the circuit breaker box’s metal door to display the child’s collection of magnets. Arrange them in a pattern throughout the front to hide it from view.
