Clean the PVC pipe birdhouse as thoroughly as possible to remove any dust or debris on the surface.
Run fine-grit sandpaper over each area of PVC pipe you’ll be painting, which allows the paint to stick better to the surface. Wipe away any PVC dust with a damp cloth.
Prepare a painting surface by placing a layer of newspaper onto a table in a well-ventilated area.
Apply a base layer of spray paint to the PVC birdhouse using a paint formula designed for plastics. Hold the paint can nozzle about 10 inches from the bird house and move your wrist in a back-and-forth motion for even application. Allow the paint at least six hours of drying time.
Add any details to the birdhouse, such as a decorative pattern, by using a fine-tipped brush and acrylic craft paints.
Protect the paint job from the elements by applying a spray coat of clear exterior sealant over the surface of the birdhouse. Let the sealant dry overnight before hanging outside.
