How to Hang Decorative Items on a Stucco Wall

Stucco walls contain rough, textured surfaces, which add a classic, warm and elegant appearance. Just because the walls are textured does not mean decorative items cannot be hung from them. Adding such items to stucco walls requires careful planning and preparation to prevent unnecessary holes or damage to the stucco finish. This involves deciding where to position the decorative items and pre-drilling holes for screws to ensure a clean installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide a stud finder along the wall where the decorative item will be hung. Mark the location of the wall studs with a pencil.

    • 2

Hold the decorative item against the wall so the mounting holes are flush with the wall studs. Place a level across the top of the decorative item and adjust until even. Mark the location of the mounting holes with the pencil. Set the decorative item aside.

    • 3

Drill a hole using a 1/16-inch masonry drill bit in the center of each mounting hole mark to the depth of the screw length. Align the decorative item flush with the newly drilled holes and use a screw gun to drive the screws through the holes in the wall.
