How to Make a Picture From Corrugated Tin

Corrugated tin pictures add a rustic touch to a farmhouse-style room. You can choose to make a picture or design on recycled corrugated tin that is rusted or a new sheet that is shiny. The art of tin-punched pictures relies on evenly spacing each hole in the tin so the picture is uniform.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a piece of plywood on a flat work surface such as a table or work bench. Put a piece of corrugated tin on top of the plywood and tape it in place with duct tape on the corners.

    • 2

Lay your design on top of the corrugated tin and tape it to the tin with transparent adhesive tape. You can use a printed picture or design, or draw a design on paper.

    • 3

Mark dots an equal distance apart around the exterior of the picture on the corrugated tin with a carpenter’s pencil.

    • 4

Place the tip of an awl on a dot and strike it with medium force with a hammer. The awl’s pointed end will make a hole in the tin. Continue punching holes on all of the dots on the exterior of the picture.

    • 5

Punch holes in the interior lines of your picture the same distance apart as the exterior holes.

    • 6

Remove the adhesive tape off the paper picture. Remove the duct tape off the corrugated tin. Pour isopropyl alcohol on paper towels and rub the areas where the duct tape was to remove any stickiness left behind.

    • 7

Cut around the picture with tin snips to size it for hanging.

    • 8

Place a small chain across the back top of the picture. Screw a small screw into each end of the chain to support the picture for hanging.
