Instructions

    • 1

Draw a big, round flower outline on a piece of butcher paper using a fabric marker. Make the flower the exact shape you want the pillow to be, making the size 1/2 inch larger around than you want the final pillow to be. The petals should be rounded, but there shouldn't be any space in-between them to avoid making the sewing process more difficult.

    • 2

Cut the pattern out from the butcher paper using a pair of scissors.

    • 3

Double over some fleece fabric in the color of your choice. Fleece is a soft fabric that is perfect for making pillows with. Secure the pattern to the doubled over fleece with sewing pins.

    • 4

Cut the fleece around the flower pattern. You should be left with two identical pieces of fabric in the flower shape.

    • 5

Draw a smaller version of the pillow flower shape onto a large piece of felt using the fabric marker. Choose a color of felt that contrasts or matches with the color of the fleece, depending on how much you want the felt flower to stand out from the pillow. Cut the shape out with the scissors.

    • 6

Center the felt flower shape on the right side of one of the pieces of fleece and secure it using sewing pins.

    • 7

Bind the felt flower shape to the fleece fabric piece using a needle and thread or loaded sewing machine. You can use a blanket stitch or a zig zag stitch for looks, or just use a straight stitch to attach the shape. Secure the thread at the end, and cut off the extra.

    • 8

Place the identically shaped pieces of fleece fabric against each other, with the felt-designed side facing inward toward the right side of the other fleece piece. Secure the perimeter with sewing pins, giving yourself a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

    • 9

Bind the perimeter of the pillow case using a needle and thread or loaded sewing machine. Stop stitching when there are 2 inches left. Tie off the thread and cut off any extra.

    • 10

Turn the pillow case right-side out through the small hole you left. Stuff the hole with as much cotton stuffing as you wish, using a wooden dowel to help push the stuffing against all the edges.

    • 11

Sew the remaining 2 inches shut using a needle and thread.

    • 12

Apply a dollop of hot glue to the center of the felt applique. Press a large craft jewel over the glue to represent the center of the flower.
