Hiding the Burn Marks in Wood Floors

Burn marks are tough to remove from your wood floors without refinishing the spot, and refinishing one spot can be hard to blend with the surrounding area. So, some people choose to simply hide the burn mark. There are several ways you can do this, but choose an option that will fit in best with your home’s décor, as you don’t want the solution to stand out so much that it becomes obvious you're trying to cover something up.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw over the burn mark with a stain-covering marker designed for wood floors. If the burn mark made the floor look much darker, however, this might not be a viable option for your situation.

    • 2

Place an area rug over the burn mark. If the mark is in a hallway, lay a runner over the area. If it is just next to your current area rug, either slide the rug or purchase a larger one that will cover the mark.

    • 3

Place a piece of furniture over the mark. This is especially useful if the burn mark is close to the wall or to another piece of furniture. Use a coffee table, side tables or chairs.

    • 4

Position a floor mat over the burn mark.

    • 5

Move plants so that their pots cover the burn mark, but don’t jeopardize the health of your plant by doing this. Ensure that the plant has enough light in its new location.

    • 6

Place a removable wood floor sticker over the wood floor. Choose a sticker that will fit with your décor. Place several around the stain, and arrange them in a pattern to make it look like an intentional decoration rather than a solution to a problem.

    • 7

Paint a motif on your floor that covers the burn mark. Use paint designed for high-traffic areas, and seal the paint once it has dried completely.
