How to Make Sliders for Chair Bottoms

Chair sliders are attachments for the bottom of chairs to keep the chair from scraping across the floor when you move the chair. They are often used to avoid scratching wooden floors or laminate floors. Instead of buying chair sliders, you can make your own with some simple materials. If you make your own chair sliders, you can be sure they fit on the bottom of your chairs properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of the bottoms of the chair's feet. Cut out circles of felt that are about ½ inch larger.

    • 2

Place a dab of super glue on the rounded flat head of the tack. Place the tack's flat head in the middle of the felt circle. Allow the glue to dry completely. The slider will have the felt circle on one side and the pointed end of the tack on the other. Don't stick the tack through the felt or the metal will scratch the floor.

Turn the chair over dab some glue on the feet of the chair. Gently hammer the pointed tack side of the slider into the foot of the chair. Repeat the process with all the feet on the chair.

Set the chair upright and allow the glue to dry for at least 30 minutes before you slide the chair.
